When we became a band, Liam had to make a choice between competitive hockey (AAA) and the band… lucky for us, he picked the band… and here’s what we did with his hockey stick… being tested along with the goalie-bass on the Holiday Train before leaving the train yard for showtime with Canadian Folk Legend Valdy! This is “Game On” from our album… it was inspired by two of our favorite things… HOCKEY and RUSH!!!

8 Rainy day debate
Ok so it’s raining pretty bad out, we’re in a train yard outside downtown Toronto playing Euchre and we’re talking about music (for a change) and the subject of “all time best guitar solos” comes up… and Quinn and Jan say David Gilmore’s solo in Time, from Dark Side of the Moon and Liam says it’s Comfortably Numb. Dad says Neil Young’s solo from Cinnamon Girl (wonder if he’s being sarcastic?). What do you think?
1 Life on the train
When everything you walk on, eat on, sleep on and even play on moves at a high speed you can imagine how important safety is. Everything has to be secured to make sure nothing moves around. The stage is a great example. Here’s a shot of Jan’s bass amp strapped to the floor as an example of how the CP team leaves nothing to chance. The drums rotate to allow us to play to either side of the tracks and lock in for travel. It’s pretty impressive to see how so much can be safely rocking and rolling!!!
2 Sound check on the American Holiday Train
Ok so there are actually two holiday trains, one American and one Canadian. We are riding the American one tonight (oops, “tonite” in America, LOL) for two shows. Here we are at the train yard in Montreal getting ready for the kick off tonite!!! Last year was pretty freezing to say the least but this year it’s wayyyyy warmer. Those guitar strings can freeze your fingers pretty fast! Two shows kicking off in a few hours!!! Here we go. And oh yeah almost forgot… We are testing our git’awkee stick and bass tonite!!!

Sound check - OK!
Later… Here’s a video of the sound check…
1 All Aboard CP Rail’s Holiday Train!!!
This week we’re getting on the Holiday Train with Valdy to start CP Rail’s national (US and Canada) food drive… two trains go from Montreal to Vancouver helping raise food and money for local food banks along the way. They raised over $5.5 Million and over 2.5 million pounds of food.
It’s awesome! Over 100,000 shimmering lights cover the train and they hand out over 20,000 candy canes every year! It stops all across Canada and as a giant door comes down on the side of one of the cars, the smoke machine puffs out a cloud as we crank up the tunes… this year we are honored to play with one of Canada’s greatest names in folk music, Valdy! We even learned one of his tunes!!!
Here’s Quinn getting stoked this week (we get a week off school, but will bring our schoolwork with us).
